Scarce French silver insurance jeton issued for the Compagnie d’Assurance Contre l’Incendie à Paris (Paris Fire Insurance Company), commemorating the company’s establishment under the Royal Ordinance of 27 February 1837. These octagonal jetons were produced as presentation pieces for company officials, agents, or policyholders and are among the earliest French fire insurance tokens.
The obverse depicts the seated allegorical figure of La France, holding a spear and a shield bearing the caduceus, accompanied by symbols of commerce, maritime trade, and abundance including an anchor and cornucopia. The reverse is inscribed “Compagnie d’Assurance Contre l’Incendie à Paris” with the founding date “Ordonnance Royale – 27 Février 1837”, emphasizing the company’s royal authorization.
